Frequently asked questions
What exactly is a “bunkhouse”?
Our bunkhouse is a converted barn full of bunk beds, designed to accommodate one group at a time. Staying here lies somewhere between glamping and staying in a youth hostel. But, unlike a hostel, you have the privacy of exclusive hire.
If some members of your group would prefer a different option, the Gallows Hill B&B property lies across the yard.
How much does exclusive hire cost?
The cost to hire the entire bunkhouse is £590 per night Monday – Thursday, £650 per night Friday to Sunday for up to 20, at an average of £29.50 – £32.50 per night per person.
Is bedding included for the bunkhouse?
We provide a mattress protector, fitted sheet, pillow and pillowcase. Please bring your own duvets or sleeping bags.
Are towels included?
To keep the hire price affordable, we ask that guests bring their own towels.
Are dogs allowed within the bunkhouse?
Yes, dogs are allowed. There are also dog boxes available in the yard outbuildings.
Do you have a cot and high chair we can borrow?
Yes, we have cots and high chairs available. Please pre-order at the time of booking.
Does an infant in a cot count as a guest?
No, infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure.
Is parking available at Gallows Hill bunkhouse?
Yes, ample free parking is available to guests. There is enough space for minibuses too.
Do you welcome walkers and cyclists?
Yes, absolutely! There is secure, lockable storage for cycles and motorbikes on site. Plus a bike/dog washing area and drying area.
Do you accept hen and stag dos?
Yes but only very well-behaved ones! Guests need to observe the “quiet time” of 11pm for the bunkhouse, monitored by our on-site manager.
Is there any nightlife nearby?
It’s very quiet here, with a few rural pubs. There are bars and nightclubs in Scarborough, but securing late-night taxis can be difficult and expensive.
Is the downstairs area all on one level?
There are steps down into the bunkhouse’s main entrance, and between the dining area and kitchen.
Can you accommodate school, youth group and student group bookings?
Yes. Our location is particularly well-located for field trips. To help you decide, here is a link to our Access Statement [file missing].
Are the dining area and kitchen available for day or evening hire?
Yes, we love to host talks, workshops and demonstrations for up to 20 people. There is parking next to the bunkhouse and toilets are across the yard.
Please get in touch with us to discuss availability, layout options and prices.
What pubs and restaurants are nearby?
There are many options in nearby villages. Plus Scarborough is just a short drive away. Please take a look at our Local area section for suggestions.
Is there a minimum booking period?
Yes, it’s a minimum 2 night stay booking.
There are only 10 of us. Can we get a discount?
We only hire out the bunkhouse to one group at a time. This means the price is the same whether it’s one person or the full 20.

How to check availability and book
You can book online. Or book directly with us for the best price.
