A charming bed and breakfast near Scarborough

Looking to celebrate a milestone event, a ‘mini-moon’ or just relax on holiday? Gallows Hill is a romantic, secluded property eight miles inland from Scarborough.

The soft creams, beiges and sage greens create a true ‘country house’ ambiance, combined with 21st century comforts.

Wordsworth Suite

Double bedded and twin-bedded rooms, sleeps up to 4

This south-facing suite of rooms sleeping up to four is perfect for a family getaway. The twin bedroom and spacious double bedroom share a generous modern bathroom with a L-shaped bath with a shower above it.

Both rooms have views across the Vale of Pickering to the Yorkshire Wolds beyond. There is also a tea/coffee-making station, and space for an extra single bed should one be needed.

Divided from the house’s other suites by a landing and the grand entrance hall, the Wordsworth Suite is a private oasis. A lockable door to the suite transforms it into your own secluded set of rooms.

Hutchinson Suite

Double, sleeps 2

This delightful suite is made up of a large dual-aspect south-facing bedroom with a similarly generous ensuite. The focal point of the bedroom is the 1930s fireplace, decorated in a traditional ‘egg and dart’ design. It also includes a table with seating for two, and a large, comfortable chaise longue.

The expansive bathroom includes a sizeable walk-in shower and is tiled throughout.

This suite takes its name from the Hutchinson family who lived here in the 19th century. Their sister Mary married the poet William Wordsworth in nearby Brompton-by-Sawdon’s church on 4th October 1802. They set up home in the Lake District, and were happily married for 48 years. A happy omen for the brides and honeymooners who choose to stay here!
