In the footsteps of William Wordsworth
Gallows Hill is steeped in history. In the 19th century, the farm’s tenants were the Hutchinson family. On 4th October 1802, their sister Mary left here with her fiancé William Wordsworth for their wedding at All Saints Church in Brompton-by-Sawdon.
After a fire in the 1930s, Gallows Hill was extended in 1942. It continued to be let as a farm, before becoming a private home with a café and shop in the early 2000s. It evolved into a B&B and bunkhouse, coming under new management in 2024.
